Student laptops and Malware

Posted: January 23, 2015

Although Macintosh computers have traditionally not been targeted at the level of PCs by malware and virus writers, it does appear that this is changing. We have noticed that a significant number of students do not have any anti-virus software on their computers. In the last week this has meant that many have been infected by adware that directs their browsers to advertising sites. Whilst annoying, this is not particularly serious. Students have been given instructions if their laptops have been infected by this. They may need you to help with the padmin password to remove this infection.

We recommend that you consider installing an anti-virus programme to protect against infection. AVG and Avast are both free to use or purchase a commercial option.
