Y11 Jazz evening entertains

Posted: April 17, 2015

Thank you to all the students, parents and staff who came out to support the Year 11 Music class in their Jazz concert this week. Jazz arrangements of contemporary hits took centre stage, but the students also gave tastes of standard favourites like ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘It Don’t Mean a Thing’. The concert capped a unit of inquiry during which students explored various jazz styles, jazz harmony and theory, and approaches to improvisation. It was a thoroughly entertaining celebration of their exploration and creativity. Well done to the Year 11 students.

After weeks of learning the depth of the jazz genre and practicing with our groups, the Jazz evening was a fun and great experience for my band and I. Though we had a lot of difficulties as jazz is very complex, we managed to get through it and had an amazing time.
