Seeing Sunspots

Posted: May 20, 2016

This week in Mrs Player’s Astrophysics CCA, the weather was thankfully clear enough to view the sun through solar filter lenses and a solar filter telescope. The magnification of the sun, viewed through the telescope, allowed students to see sunspots. Sunspots are temporary dark spots on the surface of the sun, which correspond to concentrations of inhibited convection, resulting in reduced surface temperature in that spot.
