Sulawesi NB fundraiser

Posted: October 28, 2016

Thank you to all of you who bought our baked goods or tickets to guess the weight of our amazing rainforest cake, that was so skillfully made by the talented Hanna Swedenklef. We raised $5,100, which will go towards buying much needed items for the Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Centre.

The fundraiser was intended to help raise awareness about the massive habitat destruction that is going on, particularly in Indonesia. Did you know that approximately 300 football fields worth of rainforest are cleared every hour to make room for palm oil plantations and that the orangutan population has halved in the last 10 years? Clearing one hectare of peat forest releases around 6000 tons of CO2 and around 10 million hectares of peat forest has been cleared in Indonesia alone. This is an issue that is the responsibility of all of us as we consume supermarket products, 50% of which contain palm oil. Check the labels.
