Road Safety – please support your children getting safely to school

Posted: October 20, 2017

Discovery College supports and encourages walking, riding and scootering to school and the health benefits associated with this additional exercise. However, over the last few weeks we have had several reports from our community members about unsafe behaviour by students in DC uniforms. This includes overtaking buses coming down Siena avenue on scooters and a number of students riding without helmets.

It is a DC expectation that all students traveling to school follow road rules and wear approved safety helmets. If your child is riding or using a skateboard or scooter to get to school please discuss the path they take, appropriate road rules and behaviour and your expectations around safety on the road.

DC’s postion on bicycles, scooters and skateboards is more fully explained on page 59 of the Parent and Student handbook.
