Shaw Prize Astrophysics Lecture at HKUST

Posted: October 13, 2017

Mrs Player’s Year 13 HL Physics students had the opportunity to travel to Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and attend an astrophysics lecture presented by Professor Simon White, the Director of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics. Professor White was awarded the 2017 Shaw Prize in Astronomy for his work in developing computer reconstruction of cosmic history. In his lecture, he discussed the structural formation of the universe and how computer simulations can provide us with more insight into the significant factors like: density fluctuations, dark matter, and the cosmological constant (dark energy). At the end of the lecture, the group was able to get a picture with him!
