I am delighted to announce that the agreement with HK Resorts has been signed to allow us to proceed with construction work to develop an artificially turfed play and sports area on the foreshore in front of the College. The terms of the agreement are for 8 years, during which time Discovery College will develop, maintain and manage the space.
A tender process was carried out over the summer holidays, with the successful tender awarded last week. We expect that actual site works will start at the end of November and be completed around May 2015. During this period the foreshore will be blocked off for health and safety reasons. The major excavation and site formation is planned across the Christmas holiday period to lessen the impact on the College and community.
Once completed, the College and wider community can expect to enjoy this facility, which will include two small football/rugby fields as well as surrounding play space. The total cost, including consultant fees, has come in just under HK$7.5 million. This cost will have no impact on projected future school fees as the money was included in our long term financial forecasts several years ago.
