Teachers in lower primary and the Learning Development Team are currently implementing a handwriting programme based on Handwriting Without Tears (HWT). HWT was developed by occupational therapists, and follows a developmental approach. It lays the foundation skills for learning handwriting, and then provides a scope and sequence for teachers to follow. Strategies can be adopted and modified depending on learners’ needs. A strength of the programme is that it is multisensory. It focuses on developing pencil grip, letter formation and letter placement.
