At the recent Parent Information Fair, a workshop ‘Social Media – Friend or Foe’ was held with parents. One of the questions coming out of that session was that some of us struggle to understand exactly what the apps our children use do and how we can help them be safer users of them.
This site, published by the Australian Government, provides an easy to use overview of the major social networking games and apps and provides useful information on what they do, age appropriateness , how you can protect you personal information and report abuse etc.
As discussed at the workshop, ultimately what social media you let your child use is a family decision. We hope this site will help you understand and make informed decisions about social media choice, use and privacy settings.
