Keep your camera with you during your summer holiday and take great photos of the people and places you see as you travel and explore. Choose your best image and enter it in the 2016 annual College photography competition, which is part of the Discovery Culture Festival.
The competition is open to all DC students. Entries will be judged in three age categories: Junior – Years 1-5, Middle – Years 6-9, Senior – Years 10-13.
THEME: ‘People & Places’. Your photo can be taken anywhere in the world – indoors or outside, of people or places or both. The judges are looking for striking digital images that have inspired you and give a wonderful sense of people and/or places you have seen.
HOW TO TAKE YOUR BEST SHOT: Think about composition. What is the focus of your photo? What should be IN focus? Is the subject lit well? What message or emotion are you conveying? Have you heard of ‘rule of thirds’? Google ‘guidelines for good photos’ to get you thinking how you can capture wonderful, memorable images this summer.
MUST HAVES: You can only enter one photo and it must be taken this calendar year (2016). It must be a high definition (greater than 300 dpi/8 megapixel) Jpeg image. You need to give your image a title and include the location and date it was taken.
You will get information on the great prizes to be won and how to submit your entry next term. Closing date for entries is Monday 7 November 2016.
Don’t forget to think and ask before you photograph – not everyone likes to have their picture taken.
