This is a reminder that this year we are moving towards students purchasing their own sports kit for their respective sports. Students have been asking for this over the past couple of years and we are very happy that we are now in a position to be able to do this. Following a comprehensive tender process, I am pleased to announce that Tsunami has been awarded the contract to supply the DC Cobras sportswear.
The purpose of moving from school-supplied to student-purchased kit has stemmed from conversations with players, teams, and coaches regarding the wear and tear, quality and comfort of school-supplied versus student-purchased gear. There are practical advantages as well with students being able to size their own kit rather than being handed a generic ‘one-size fits all’ item in the school stock. It allows students to hold on to their kit, which will be individually named, and we believe that this will further develop pride in playing for the DC Cobras.
Students will be able to purchase clothing from the Tsunami website. This store will be opened at specific times throughout the year. Information of store opening dates will be sent to parents, including on Ding! well in advance of season start dates.
The turnaround period from ordering to receiving goods is 6-8 weeks. In order for this process to work efficiently and to ensure time for any unforeseen incidents, we will start the mandatory purchase of uniforms for our Season 2 (November) teams. This will include the Cobras Cross Country, U20 Girls Rugby, U14 Boys Rugby, U13 & U19 Netball as well as U14, U16 & U20 Basketball. As such, the coaches of these teams will be asked to have their teams selected by Monday 29 August. This allows time for information to be sent to parents/students about their selection.
Please note that Season 1 sports for this year will remain with the school-supplied kit.
To support our move towards students purchasing kit, Tsunami has agreed to send a merchandiser/agent to Discovery College on Thursday 1 September. This representative will be in the 2/F Gym from 12.30–2.30pm to provide measurement advice for all students wanting to purchase gear as well as to answer any questions. Lawrence Wilkinson, Discovery College Sports Coordinator, will also be present should there be any further questions.
The cost of all sports kit has been kept as low as possible without influencing the integrity of each garment. There is an obvious price difference in kit, for example, the basketball top, which is reversible, costs more than the Cross Country Singlet. Where possible, we have made efforts to put multi-sports in one shirt, for example, students playing Volleyball, Football and Badminton will wear the same shirt.
All tops will be personalised with the students’ surnames, and numbers applied to particular sports as well. The numbering system will be monitored by the DC Sports Coordinator to ensure where possible, there is no clash of numbers across sports teams.
Students, parents, and supporters of Cobra Sports teams are welcome to purchase the Travel Shirt.
