Recently fake news has been at the tip of everyone’s tongues. At DC, educating students about evaluating sources of information starts early with the support of the PYP Teacher Librarian, Leanne Sercombe. In Y3 currently, students are looking at the importance of checking website facts as they research famous explorers. Allaboutexplorers.com has been purposely set up to encourage students to use more than one source. It is completely full of fake facts and information yet looks completely appropriate for students to use. We guide students to use reliable resources such as our simple Britannica database. This excellent resource also has a read aloud option for early readers.
The Britannica database has three different reading levels and can therefore be used for our older students in higher grades. Why not check this resource out at home when supporting students with homework? Britannica Online Library is a paid subscription service and can be accessed in the Library section on Ding!
