The DC Cobra Badminton team got of to a strong start winning all 3 matches last Friday in the ACAMIS badminton competition. By the end of the pool matches on Saturday, we were undefeated in Pool A after playing 10 schools from China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong. This included the highly placed team from our sister school, RCHK. Our Cobras showed stamina and strength, each playing over 20 individual games over the two days.
Entering into the championship draw at ISF Academy on Sunday as one of the top 4 teams from each pool, it seemed we had a long road ahead of us. Playing first against YCIS Pudong in the quarter finals, we showed our class winning 4 of the 5 matches. In the semis we were pitted against VSA (the top team in Pool B). We won the match with 3 games to 2, the decider being the final game of mixed doubles, and taking us into the finals. Having beaten RCHK in this competition held in Nanjing last year, we were hoping for a repeat victory. However, after some very close games we were edged out to win the Silver Medal. Well done to our Cobra team, Yu and Charlotte in the mixed doubles, Aashman and Kabir in the boys doubles, Shirley in the girls singles, Anoushka and Leila in the girls doubles and our indispensable Alfred, undefeated throughout the competition in boys singles.
