This week, Y11 and Y12 students had the opportunity to attend a talk in Discovery College by media expert, Anne Kruger. Ms Kruger is Head of Digital Broadcast in Hong Kong University and Principal Investigator in the Cyber News Verification Lab. She discussed the very topical issue of fake news and emphasised how necessary it is to examine information critically to assess for credibility. Clickbait, fact checking and the importance of reputation as a journalist were all highlighted and students were shown how easy it is for information to be taken out of context. Y11 students are currently exploring news literacy in Individuals & Societies with a focus on fake news.
