On Wednesday, Discovery College Library, thanks to the DCPTA’s sponsorship of Culture Fest activities, hosted visiting author Sonia Leong. Sonia is a professional comic artist and illustrator with anime/manga as her speciality. Her awards include Young Adult Library Services Association “2008 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers” and “Best Books for Young Adults 2008” for Romeo and Juliet; winner in Tokyopop’s UK Rising Stars of Manga competition (2005/06) and winner in NEO Magazine’s 2005 Manga Competition.
Sonia worked with our Year 9 students for the day commencing with an assembly focusing on the different varieties of manga art available and following this with specific manga workshops. The Year 9 students created some fantastic manga illustrations, some of which can be seen here.
