NEAMC 18 Success

Posted: March 9, 2018

NEAMC 18 (North East Asian Mathematics Competition) took place in Seoul from 1-3 March 2018. Our team of 12 students from Years 8-13 has been training at least weekly since the start of the school year under the guidance of coach Yan Yau Cheng (Year 13). Over nine collaborative rounds, students were challenged to communicate mathematically, apply mathematics in team and individual contexts, and work with Mathematics problems in the real world. In many cases they worked closely with students from other schools.

As well as medals for Knowledge (Samira Salwan), Strategy (Soovin Lee, Jessica Ng), and Creativity (Kevin Xin), two students were selected to attend the finals of the World Mathematics Championships within the University of Melbourne in June (Kevin Xin, Samira Salwan). Many others were just outside the medals. More importantly, all returned home energised by mathematics.
