Dolphin Quest 2018 – Educational Junk Experience

Posted: June 27, 2018

Each year, Lantau Boat Club (LBC) hosts an amazing event in which they embark on a single day race around Lantau Island in six person outrigger boats. This event is all about raising money and awareness for Hong Kong’s struggling cetacean populations, the Chinese White Dolphin and the Finless Porpoise. This year’s event will be held on Saturday 8 September 2018. This year, they have approached the Lantau Paddle team, along with Plastic Free Seas and Gary Stokes from Sea Shepard, to assist in bringing the event to the communities, in particular the youth of Discovery Bay and Lantau. We will aim to do some dolphin spotting before heading to shore to take part in a large beach cleaning operation. This will be followed by a BBQ and swim on the Western Fan Lau beach. To be apart of this, we are asking students from all over DB to “Take Action, Make a Difference”. By taking action, they will be invited to become a crew member of one of our junks. The closing date of the entries is Thursday 30 August 2018. Please see more information at the website and the letter HERE
