Posted: March 15, 2019

On Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 March 2019, 8 Y9-10 students along with Mr Street and Ms Dempsey went to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for the annual Junior South East Asian Mathematics Competition (SEAMC 19). This competition is a thrilling experience with three individual Challenge rounds, three buddy team Collaboration rounds and three DC school team Communication rounds with skill categories across Knowledge, Strategy, and Creativity. Over 150 students from 17 schools in South East Asia participated in the event.

This year’s DC participants included: Hyungjun Kim (Y10), Abhinav Khanna (Y9), Doh Young Jeong (Y10), Megan Anderson (Y9), Charlotte Wood (Y9), HyunMin Kim (Y9), Hoi Hang Lo (Y9) and Harshita Adury (Y10). Abhinav won medals for the Creativity and Challenge rounds and was selected for the World Mathematics Championships finals to be held in Melbourne in July. All students prepared around the year under the guidance of senior DC students and teachers and benefited immensely from the competition experience, making friendships with other schools’ young mathematicians.
