Authors Online

Posted: September 30, 2020

Looking for new ideas to read and enjoy books at home? Recently there have been a greater number of authors who are sharing their books online. Some are reading an introductory chapter such as those on The Children’s Book Council playlist on Youtube.

Others have set up regularly “read ins” such as Oliver Jeffers (#abookaday) who has been described as a calm sanctuary. Mac Barnett runs Matt’s Book Club Show where he shares books and cartoons on his Instagram channel. Chris Haughton has a great selection of books and activities on his Facebook page. Mo Willems has a great ‘Pigeon Presents’ page. Dan Gutman has a “My Weird Read-A-Loud” page on his website. And of course a popular website for a variety of read alouds read by authors and celebrities is storylineonline. You could even listen to a story being read from Space.

This is a great way to feel connected with favourite authors. As many of these pages are on social media platforms it is recommended that children watch them with supervision. Why not search for some of your family favourites and see what they have to offer.
