ONLINE Learning for Years 1, 2 and 3 Students between Monday 23 November and Friday 4 December

Posted: November 20, 2020

Following today’s government announcements, all schools in Hong Kong are required to suspend on-campus learning for students in Years 1, 2 and 3 from Monday onwards, for two weeks. Consequently, we will be moving to our online learning plans for these year groups. Parents of students in these year groups will receive learning grids via App Message later today, pertaining to Monday 23 November 2020. Grids will be sent daily during the two weeks. The grids feature whole class and small group zoom sessions plus one live specialist session per specialist, and one live and two independent activities for Chinese.

The government’s decision was taken in response to a serious spike in locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and the continuing Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTIs) outbreak in the lower primary sector. Statistics show that younger children are more susceptible to URTIs and nearly 70% of the URTI outbreak has been amongst young children (Year 3 and below). Unfortunately this outbreak is increasing rapidly, hence the need for immediate action.

While we are saddened to have reached the point where this measure is necessary across Hong Kong, as a community we have shown we are well-practiced at putting the right arrangements in place to ensure learning continuity at times when such measures are required. We look forward to welcoming our youngest students back to campus as soon as the situation allows.

The government has made clear that they will be continuing to monitor health data across the city, and may take further decisions regarding school operations in the coming period as required. Naturally we will keep our community posted, via The Explorer and other means as necessary, with any developments.
