Reporting to Parents at Discovery College includes communicating what students know, understand and can do at certain points of the year. Three-Way Conferences are one avenue across the year that enables us to do this. Reporting involves parents, students and teachers as partners in honest, comprehensive and open communication.
We will be going ahead with the Three-Way Conferences scheduled. The date for these conferences has slightly shifted as per last week’s communication to Thursday 4 February 2021. These conferences will be held entirely online during the school day.
*Please note home learning will occur for all students on this day. Learning tasks will be sent via the Learning Grid. No live zoom sessions will take place for students.
Although this year has been all but typical, continuing with the planned Three-Way Conferences provides the opportunity for a shared conversation with your child’s class teacher, your child and yourself around two key areas:
This talking point is around checking in with how your child is feeling about their social and emotional well-being in relation to the recent changes with learning provision and to identify any strategies that may help your child moving forward with their personal, social and emotional well-being
- Next Steps
This talking point will revolve around a selection of Next Steps that appeared in your child’s end of Term 1 report. It is an opportunity to get clarification, talk through a plan to achieve the Next Steps and engage in goal-oriented conversations.
Chinese Teacher Three-Way Conference (Optional)
You and your child also have the opportunity to meet with their Chinese teacher. The purpose of this part of the Three-Way Conference is two-fold:
- To celebrate the strengths and highlights of your child’s Chinese learning in Term 1 (online/on-site)
- To discuss the next steps for your child‘s Chinese learning
Please note: This is not a compulsory component of the conference.
During Three-Way Conferences the Chinese teachers will be available for appointments in the same way that classroom teachers are. The Chinese teachers will only have limited timeslots available and will take appointments on a first in first served basis due to the number of families in the school. Chinese appointments are 5 minutes long.
Appointments for Three-Way Conferences can be booked online.
Bookings will open on Wednesday 20 January 2021 at 4pm and will close on Friday 29 January 2021 at 4pm.
Date of the Three-Way Conferences: Thursday 4 February 2021
Conference Availability: Between 8.30am-3.30pm
Families will have the opportunity to book a timeslot that best suits them. Each meeting will be scheduled for 10 minutes and will take place on the Zoom meeting application. Once you have completed the booking process, and a few days prior to the conference, you will be sent the teacher’s Meeting Room link on Zoom. Parents and students can participate with the link from different locations, as per family needs, you do not have to be together in the same place to meet on the day.
In order to accommodate the Zoom meetings, you will be placed in the waiting room upon joining the meeting room. This will allow the teacher to admit you when it is your time.
To make your booking:
Go to ESF Gateway or follow the Gateway link from the DC website homepage. Log in using your Gateway Parent username and password (logging in using your child’s Gateway account will not allow you to access this module of the Gateway). The final step is to click on ‘Parent Consultation’ on the right-hand side of the screen to make your booking. If you can’t remember your Gateway Parent username, please try clicking the forgot password link on the Gateway login page. You can enter either your email address or your login name to retrieve the password and username from the system. If all else fails please email firstname.lastname@example.org for help, stating your child’s full name and roll group.
A tutorial for booking can be found HERE.
In order to ensure that conferences are respectful, and centred solely around your child and their learning, we ask that the conversations remain focussed on your child as a learner. Please understand Teachers will not be discussing:
- EDB, ESF and school-based decision making, including processes and policies regarding home learning provision.
We kindly ask that all parents understand these expectations, and support the teachers to engage in a positive conversation with you and your child and their learning at this very challenging time for all.
