It has been fantastic to see our students enjoying their first full week in school, with a wonderfully vibrant and positive atmosphere.
We are now gaining momentum with our new timetable, and students are starting to see the learning benefits of 80 minute lessons where they have each subject every two days.
Part of the rationale for our longer lessons is the opportunity for regular, high quality feedback. Our aim is that every student should know:
- Where they are at in their learning
- Where they are going
- How they are going to get there
With feedback being one of DC’s strategic objectives for 2021-22, our staff are involved in regular collaborative planning sessions and discussions aimed at developing ideas and practices to bring into the classroom. This will also influence how we use our ARR system, in particular how we share feedback with parents through MYP unit reporting.
In the meantime, it would be great if you could continue the conversations at home that help your child to reflect on their learning by discussing:
- What is going well?
- What are your areas of development?
- How will you make these improvements?
In the coming weeks I will share further information on our focus points in the classroom. We will also have a variety of parent workshops throughout the year, the first of which will be focussed on supporting your child through exams. This is advertised elsewhere in the Explorer and it would be great if we could have as many from our community join as possible.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have a great weekend ahead.
