Primary Three-Way Conferences

Posted: January 21, 2022

Reporting to parents at Discovery College includes communicating what students know, understand and can do at certain points of the year. Three-Way Conferences are one avenue across the year that enables us to do this. Reporting involves parents, students and teachers as partners in honest, comprehensive and open communication.

We will be going ahead with the Three-Way Conferences as scheduled. The date for these conferences is Wednesday 16 February 2022. These conferences will be held entirely online during the school day.

There will be no classes for Primary students on this day, however, they are expected to take part in their conference.

Three-Way Conferences provide the opportunity for a shared conversation with your child’s class teacher, your child and yourself around two key areas:

  1. Checking In
This talking point is around checking in with how your child is feeling about their social and emotional well-being and to identify any strategies that may help your child move forward with their personal, social and emotional well-being. Additionally, seeing as this is the halfway point of the term, it is an opportunity to discuss how learning is going.

  2. Next Steps
This talking point will revolve around a selection of Next Steps, including those that appeared in your child’s end of Term 1 report. It is an opportunity to get clarification and talk through a plan to achieve the Next Steps and engage in goal-oriented conversations.

Chinese Teacher Three-Way Conference (Optional)

You and your child also have the opportunity to meet with their Chinese teacher. The purpose of this part of the Three-Way Conference is two-fold:

  1. To celebrate the strengths and highlights of your child’s Chinese learning in Term 1 (online/on-site)
  2. To discuss the next steps for your child‘s Chinese learning

Please note: This is not a compulsory component of the conference.

During Three-Way Conferences the Chinese teachers will be available for appointments in the same way that classroom teachers are. The Chinese teachers will only have limited timeslots available and will take appointments on a first in first served basis due to the number of families in the school.

Appointments for Three-Way Conferences can be booked online.

Bookings will open on Monday 24 January 2022 at 4pm and will close on Friday 4 February 2022 at 4pm.

Date of the Three-Way Conferences: Wednesday 16 February 2022

Conference Availability: Between 8.30am-3.30pm

Families will have the opportunity to book a timeslot that best suits them. Each meeting will be scheduled for 10 minutes and will take place on the Zoom meeting application. Once you have completed the booking process, you will be sent the teacher’s Zoom Meeting Room link a few days prior to the conference. Parents and students can participate with the link from different locations, as per family needs; you do not have to be together in the same place to meet on the day.

In order to accommodate the Zoom meetings, you will be placed in the waiting room upon joining the meeting room. This will allow the teacher to admit you when it is your time.

To make your booking:

  1. Open the ESF App and click on ‘Ding! VLE’.
  2. Scroll down and click on the link ‘Make / Check Teacher Appointments’.
  3. Make appointments as desired.

A tutorial for booking can be found HERE.

In order to ensure that conferences are respectful, and centred solely around your child and their learning, we ask that the conversations remain focussed on your child as a learner. Please understand teachers will not be discussing:

  • EDB, ESF and school-based decision making

We kindly ask that all parents understand these expectations, and support the teachers to engage in a positive conversation with you and your child and their learning at this very challenging time for all.

Kind regards
