Battle of the Books reflection

Posted: May 13, 2022

Eager readers have met weekly (even when online) to participate in activities and discussions based on each of the 20 selected titles that made up the Battle of the Books.  Students were able to read each book in their own time, at their own pace.

Battle of the Books 2022 – By Claire Lee and Jio Kim (Y9)

Last week, on the beautiful sunny morning of 6 May, Secondary students (Years 7-9) competed in the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Battle of the Books competition. Our team consisted of 10 students: Claire, Jio, Sophie, Akifah, Chloe, Isla, Rishabh, Rory, Stanley and Yahvi. They competed in a series of long and difficult battles with schools including Hong Kong International School, French International School, Victoria Shanghai Academy, and International Christian School. We had under 20 seconds to answer each of the challenging questions based on 20 different novels from a prescribed list. We thoroughly enjoyed the competitive atmosphere, and showed great perseverance. Through this experience, we developed teamwork, had fun, and demonstrated our love for reading. Many thanks to Ms Lam and Mrs Garnett for all your smiles, motivation, and constant encouragement. Our team can’t wait to join the Battle of the Books competition again next year!
