With many international relocations occurring across Hong Kong at the moment, there are a large number of DC families who will be leaving our community at the end of this year and a large number of brand new families arriving over the summer. One challenge to us all is how to welcome our new families and ensure they quickly find links and connections that help them settle into life in Hong Kong, and especially within the DC community. To help with this, the PTA are organising, for the first time this year, a New Family Mentoring Programme. Newly-arrived families will be paired with existing DC families who volunteer to act as mentors.
Being a mentor can be done in lots of different ways – helping the family make social connections, going for dinner, arranging playdates or meet-ups, giving advice on practical matters… However, the overall goal is to help foster cohesion and create a welcoming environment for our new joiners – both students and their family members – now that things are improving with the pandemic situation.
We would love for you and your family to be part of this initiative. To volunteer as a mentor family, please take a moment to fill out this form. It should take no more than 5 minutes. The PTA committee will then be working to partner up mentor families and new families, especially in light of things they have in common. An opportunity to learn more about the role of the mentor family will also be offered shortly to help everyone feel confident in taking part in this initiative.
To those who volunteer, thank you so much in anticipation for providing our new families with such a warm welcome to the DC community through your willingness and support.
