Primary Update

Posted: November 11, 2022

Dear parents and carers

What a lovely set of events to write home with this week. We had a Primary Years Programme (PYP) parent workshop on Monday (pictures below, first row), a beach trip for our Year 3 students where they put into action what it means to be an IB PYP student (pictures below, second row), and a momentous occasion of removing the plastic dividers inside the classrooms. We were quite emotional about this, and we cannot wait to plan some fantastic collaborative lessons with students without having to navigate around barriers.

Alongside those wonderful moments, our students have been listening to and voting for individuals to be part of the student leadership team. This will consist of some Year 6 students who will sit on the Whole School Student Council; students from Year 3 to 6 will form a leadership group called “The Innovators”, and we will also have House Captain and Deputy House Captain positions for each of our school houses. I’m looking forward to writing home with the results of this soon.

One of our new PTA members, Jasmin, came to our PYP workshop, and as a Primary team we wanted to give her a personal shout out here in The Explorer. Jasmin was able to highlight the importance of an active PTA within our school and asked others to join, if they have the time to do so. Thank you Jasmin.

Another way to discuss Primary and to help disseminate Primary school developments is to become one of our Primary Parent Ambassadors. We are looking for one parent per year group to provide a positive stakeholder voice. If you feel you could do this please get in touch with me directly with your reasons for wanting to take up this position. I will send out a separate communication highlighting what a Primary Parent Ambassador does and how information would reach all other parents.

We hope you enjoy the photos below and that you have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes
Mrs Cathrae
