It has been a fantastic week of opportunities to strengthen the ties between school and parents. On our open day on Tuesday we welcomed well over a hundred prospective parents to the College to illustrate the values and practices that make learning at DC what it is, and it was a pleasure to explain to them what makes us all so proud of our College. On Wednesday, our first parent Coffee Morning since before Covid-19, finally made possible by the lightened restrictions, was an absolute joy and it was great to speak to so many of you about life as a DC parent and how we can all contribute to supporting our young people. On Thursday, members of our wonderful PTA committee came into DC to provide a morning tea for staff and it was a lovely occasion on which to wish everyone a happy holiday ahead. We’ll be doing more and more in the coming weeks and months to capitalise on our new opportunities for parents to be part of life on campus once again, and we hope everyone will find ways to connect with the school and join in with more Coffee Mornings, our Parent Education programme, and the various other activities underway.
As the week comes to a close, we are taking the opportunity to celebrate one of the most important moments in our calendar – Chinese New Year. Some of the ways in which the College is marking the occasion are detailed later in this edition of The Explorer. For our whole community it will be a time to focus on family, enjoy refreshment and renewal, and look forward to prosperity and good health in the Year of the Rabbit. As you celebrate and enjoy the forthcoming holiday, I wish you all peace and happiness and look forward to seeing everyone once again on Monday 30 January.
