On 18 November three DC Y9 students from the Discovery Bay Pirates – Emily Brems, Tasha Batchelor and Isla Grainger – took part in the annual TRC (Tanglin Rugby Club) Cup all girls Rugby 7s tournament in Singapore. Playing in a combined ‘Barbarians’ team, the DC girls took on the challenge with only seven players up against much larger squads, enjoying the mud and grass of the soon to close pitches of Turf City in Singapore.
The team played with great spirit and at a high level throughout, earning plenty of respect for their positive play, securing victories against two Singapore sides in the pool stage of the competition. This earned them a cup semi final place, up against the Singapore host team. Whilst not able to overcome TRC, the team bounced back to earn the Plate title with an impressive win over Hong Kong team HKU Sandy Bay.
