We would like to inform you about the upcoming counselling screening that aims to support the mental health and wellbeing of our secondary students.
During the screening, students will be asked to complete a 28-item survey. It will be administered in the classroom during extended Learning Team and is expected to take approximately 10-15 minutes. The screening includes questions that specifically inquire about school belonging, symptoms of worry or anxiety, and symptoms of low mood or depression.
Students will take the screening on the following schedule:
Wednesday 22 November – Y7 & Y8
Wednesday 29 November – Y9 & Y10
Wednesday 6 December – Y11, Y12 &Y13
Members of the student support team, Ellie Fong (social worker), Kyo Wong (social worker) and Josie Song (student counsellor) will follow up with students who indicate in the survey that they would like support, or whose responses indicate that support may be helpful. We may also follow up with parents/guardians.
As a parent/guardian, your involvement and support in your child’s wellbeing are crucial. We encourage you to engage in open conversations about their mental health and wellbeing. The counselling screening can serve as a starting point for these discussions. You may wish to ask your child how they are feeling and if they have any thoughts or reactions regarding the screening. Please approach the conversation with a supportive and non-judgmental attitude, reassuring them that seeking help and support is a sign of strength.
