It has been wonderful to see our secondary students return to the College for the start of the 2024-25 academic year, and what a start it has been! The campus has been filled with a resonating buzz along with lots of laughter and smiles as students and teachers have been reconnecting this week. We are incredibly proud of how well the Year 7 cohort and new students joining the College this year are settling in and are excited for them to be continuing their learning journey with us in the year ahead.
We would like to share a few of the many highlights from this week with you:
Year 7 Induction:
The Year 7 students experienced an engaging and successful induction to the MYP this week. The induction programme included a series of thoughtfully designed team-building exercises, academic workshops and orientation activities, to support the students in acclimating to their secondary context. A big thank you to all of the staff involved in working alongside the Year 7 students to build a strong sense of belonging and community as they begin their new chapter at DC. (pictures below)
Other key information:
Please remember that the school day begins at 8:19 am, and all secondary students are required to be on campus and swiped in by that time to ensure they can attend Learning Team in the morning. This will ensure they are fully informed about the day’s learning engagements and provides time and space for them to tune into the day ahead. Whilst we understand that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes cause delays, we would appreciate your help in ensuring your child arrives promptly each morning. Should your child be late or absent, please notify the front office and their Learning Advisor.
If a student has lost their student ID/swipe-in card, they will need to purchase a new one at the front office by Friday, 23 August at the latest. Thank you for your support!
Secondary students have access to on-campus food services, including the cafeteria and 1st-floor cafe. Students who wish to bring their own packed lunch are welcome to do so and can eat in the designated eating spaces around the school campus. Please note that deliveries of food or drink are not permitted during the school day.
If your child is sick at any point through the school day, we need them to go directly to the nurse. If your child feels unwell during the school day, please remind them to go to the school nurse for assessment. The nurse will determine the appropriate course of action, which may include contacting you. If your child contacts you directly about feeling unwell, please ask them to go to the nurse first for an assessment.
We look forward to the year ahead and the many memories that we will create together as a community.
Best wishes,
Jonny Tate
