Discovery College Student News (DCSN) has officially commenced its new academic year, with over 60 dedicated members in attendance.
Discovery College Student News is the official Student-Led news organisation for Discovery College. DCSN serves as a platform for all students from Y8-Y13 to showcase their passion and talents, with roles ranging from writing and editing, to graphic designing and social media.
Writers work with their editors to craft their writing, ranging from news articles, opinion editorials, and creative pieces across a multitude of topics. These fall under 5 respective categories: Humanities, Science and Technology, Art and Design, Sustainability and Community.
Last term, the student body produced 18 articles on a variety of unique topics, for instance “Fast Fashion Keeps Getting Faster”, which touches on the influences of rampant consumerism in the unsustainable fashion industry; “Why Should Whaling Be Stopped?” introducing the dangers of whaling while conserving its cultural roots. Each of these articles are accompanied by a specific graphic design, allowing students to showcase both their creativity and artistic abilities. The upcoming October publication includes “The Evolution of Tennis Rackets”, “A Corrupt Caribbean and Its Colonial Roots”, “Martial Art Styles to Try in Hong Kong” and much more!
All publications are posted on the DCSN website and Instagram. So please check them out!
DCSN would like to extend a special thanks to Ms Akina Lam (Teacher supervisor) and Martina O’Connor (CAS coordinator) for assisting the organisation’s operations.
