DC Student wins 2nd place at Asia Pacific Science Competition

Posted: November 15, 2024

The Asia Pacific Science Competition is a major event that unites over 150 teams from the Asia Pacific region, promoting scientific inquiry among high school students. Held at ESF Sha Tin College on 1 November 2024, this competition showcases talent and innovation. The main goal is to spark curiosity and inspire creativity, encouraging students to think outside the box and challenge conventional ideas.

This year’s theme was, “The Essence of a Changing World,” inviting students to explore critical issues like climate change, technology, and societal shifts, developing innovative solutions for today’s challenges.

Year 12 student, Yega Chung worked on extracting chitin from lobster shells, experimenting with methods to optimise the process for producing biodegradable plastics. In the lab, she refined her extraction techniques and developed effective formulations for the bioplastics. Her work not only addresses plastic pollution but also repurposes seafood waste into valuable resources, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Congratulations to Yega for her incredible work!
