The annual Discovery College Primary (Y4-6) Swimming Carnival was held again at Lei Chung Uk Swimming Pool on Wednesday 25 September 2019. It was a glorious day of sunshine which the students, staff and parents seemed to have enjoyed.
The Primary Swimming Carnival is an opportunity for our students to showcase their swimming talent and the skills developed over the six-weeks of swimming lessons they have to start their Physical Education programme. It is also a chance for students to celebrate competing for House points with their fellow House peers. The Y6 students were first in all events to model for the Y5 and Y4 students, who enjoyed their first Primary Swimming Carnival. All students competed in five races; Floatation on Front (using a kick board), Freestyle, Breaststroke, Floatation on Back (using a kick board) and Partner Noodle race. House Directors then selected A & B mixed gender relay teams to swim the 4 x 25m Freestyle relay for their Houses. The day saw a lot of competition but more importantly support, friendship and plenty of cheering from students, staff and parents. It was great to see so many supporters in the stands who contributed to a very exciting and joyous day.
For each race, points were awarded for 1st (5 points), 2nd (4 points), 3rd (3 points) and participation (1 point) which contributed towards the overall House points and eventual winners:
5th – Green House (145 points)
4th – Blue House (315 points)
3rd – Red House (407 points)
2nd – Yellow House (457 points)
1st – Purple House (568 points)
Well done to the 2019 winners and all students. Thank you to Mr Joe Leithhead who worked tirelessly on the day to capture video and photos of the event and has compiled a video which you can view HERE. Looking forward to taking the Primary Swimming Carnival from 2019’s Great to 2020’s Greater.
