Year 2 ‘How the world works’

Posted: January 9, 2015

Year 2 students began the ‘How the World Works’ unit of inquiry this week with two special events: small group exploration and mother tongue groups. To help connect with forces in our everyday life, students participated in exploring friction, gravity and buoyancy. Many questions were asked and ideas tested including the best surface for ball rolling, ways different objects fall and forces at work in water and on the playground. Many connections were made and then communicated in mother tongue groups. Parents and grandparents joined us to help develop our understanding of forces through discussions and demonstrations. These invaluable experiences mean the Year 2 students are even more prepared to discover all they can about forces in their world.
