Adopt, don’t shop

Posted: May 29, 2015

Are you thinking of getting a dog? If so, think twice about buying a dog from a pet shop and adopt instead. As part of our exhibition inquiry, we’ve been finding out about dogs that come from pet shops. Some facts we’ve discovered are that most pet shops in HK get their puppies from “hobby breeders” who are unlicensed. They focus on breeding as many dogs as possible. As a result, dogs are often stuffed in tiny cages, covered in filth and mistreated. The SPCA conducted a survey about puppies bought from pet shops. They found out that 78.7% of the puppies showed symptoms of sickness within a week of purchase, 14.7% of them become ill on the very day of their purchase and that 19.6% of the puppies tracked in these cases died. So if you are thinking of getting a dog, try adopting from:

As part of the Y6 Exhibition, students take action to raise awareness about an issue they are passionate about.  This group of students have chosen the use of Explorer to encourage you to think about dog adoption.
