On 24 February, the U20 DC Cobra boys football team played against Hong Kong International School (HKIS) for the HKISSF championship. In a truly exhilarating final, the boys came out on top to win by penalty shoot out. Having conceded early on in the first half, and playing on an extremely narrow pitch, it took some formational changes by the coaches for the second half in order to hopefully scrape a goal back. Captain Christopher Dann equalised with a long range shot, fortunate enough to go over the keeper, and into the back of the net. Throughout the second half, the tables had definitely turned as DC continued to press and eventually dominated play against HKIS, a similarly impressive side. As the final whistle blew, the match went straight to a penalty shoot-out. Two fantastic saves by keeper Shak Abdullah, and goals by all four penalty takers (Christopher Dann, Che van Raad, Ben Blazeby and James Rice) conferred the team as champions of Hong Kong! It has been a fantastic start to the season thus far, having gone undefeated against Harrow International School’s A and B teams and King George Fifth School, scoring a total of 29 goals with only 3 conceded. Hopefully, the boys can now go on to win the league and the upcoming ACAMIS tournament in Chengdu, bringing the treble home to DC!
