Year 7 students meet Irish author Marita Conlon-McKenna

Posted: March 24, 2016

DC welcomed award-winning Irish author Marita Conlon-McKenna to Discovery College on 22 March. Ms Conlon-McKenna is visiting Hong Kong as part of the Hong Kong & Macau Irish Festival. She is particularly well known for her work Under the Hawthorn Tree, focusing on the Irish famine, for which she won The International Reading Association Award.

During her visit to DC, Ms. Conlon-McKenna spoke to all Year 7 students about how to become a writer and get published, and she discussed how her family inspired her in her writing. Ms. Conlon-McKenna has written a wide variety of children’s books and students were keen to hear the stories involved. Students asked several interesting questions during the Q&A session which followed and we look forward to many students discovering these books in the library.
