Battle of the Books

Posted: May 6, 2016

Primary and Secondary teams participated in the Battle of the Books this week.

On Wednesday, our team from Y5 & 6 proudly represented the school in the semi-finals of the annual Battle of the Books Competition with Mrs Sercombe and Ms Harrison. Students participated in five out of 15 rounds and came a respectable 3rd place, with the battle for the top places down to the last round. Congratulations to our Y5 & 6 competitors: Akaisha, Smita, Megan, Theodora, Hansika, Audrey, Ellie, Nandini and Angela.

On Thursday, a group of 11 secondary students (Y7-9) represented Discovery College in the Hong Kong Battle of the Books semi-finals with Ms Corcoran and Ms Bou. The team was met with fierce competition against five other schools in the area. Despite going into the battle armed with knowledge from the prescribed list of 20 novels, participating in mock battles with DBIS, and devising team strategies, our DC team did not come out victorious. However, there were many intense moments during the live school on school competitions where DC was neck to neck with one particular school and it was great fun. Nonetheless, Battle of the Books was a fantastic experience for our students as they read great books, had the opportunity to discuss these books during weekly sessions, and were introduced to new authors and titles along the way. Well done to the DC Secondary BOB team: Alexander, Emily, Ginu, Julia, Lucy, Hyungung, Seo Jin, Ulyssa, Jay, Euna and Ga Eun.
