In Y11 Science, students experimentally determined the specific heat capacities of aluminium, lead, iron, and copper. They then compared their experimental values with the accepted values of specific heat capacity for these metals. The comparison allowed them to: determine how accurate their calculated values were, identify potential errors within the investigation method, and then reflect upon how they could reduce these identified errors if they were to repeat the experiment. These are all investigative skills that are currently assessed in MYP science and will be further developed and assessed in the DP sciences.
