Action is the ‘so what’ of learning…
“PYP schools can and should meet the challenge of offering all learners the opportunity and the power to choose to act; to decide on their actions; and to reflect on these actions in order to make a difference in and to the world.” (Making the PYP Happen).
As a part of the culminating Y6 PYP Exhibition experience, students are required to commit to, and take some form of action in order to make a positive difference. Students can take direct or indirect action, but are all expected to be advocates for their issue. Over the next two weeks, Year 6 students will be communicating their action via emails to classroom teachers, through the bulletin or by advertising in print around the school. The action most students have chosen to take encourages wider involvement from the school community. Some action is targeted at the early years, whilst other action may be targeted at the upper years. The overall aim is to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the global goals and things we can all start doing now to make a difference. Some action may require a small donation to participate. In these instances, students will inform all participants where the money raised will be going. Watch this space for updates.
